Here’s a quick guide to Hickman Park’s hidden history
1830 Alfred Hickman, who the park is named after, is born.
1866 The Hickman family acquire Spring Vale furnaces.
1892 Alfred Hickman is knighted.
1895 Sir Alfred Hickman is elected to parliament as a Conservative.
1902 Honorary freedom of Bilston is given to Sir Alfred Hickman
1910 On his death Sir Alfred Hickman gives an area of parkland to the people of Bilston.
1911 Thousands flock to the opening of the park named in honour of Sir Alfred Hickman.
1960 The open air theatre is built.
2007/8 Restoration work carried out on the 12 acre park thanks to National Lotttery and Heritage Lottery Funding.
